The role of Strategic Business Development (SBD) is to channel and focus the strengths and competencies of the global company and its supply chain towards strategic new business opportunities. SBD will be capable of both being a customer friend (helping the customer to understand its own options and priorities) as well as being customer friendly in the way that it goes about developing its solutions. To do this it has both the characteristics of a Capability Consultant and a Solutions Broker. SBD will lead the "Partner MoD for the transformation of the UK'S Armed Forces" activity.
A key activity for SBD is to direct set the direction for research and technology towards an agreed set of exploitation areas. BAE Systems invests in research and technology to deliver superior solutions to our customers, enable long-term profitable growth, mitigate risk, and develop capability key to current and future programme performance. Capability Consultancy

Capability Consultancy has the specific aim of understanding and anticipating future Customer capability needs across all Lines of Development. Its role is to establish trusted relationships with the UK Customer 1 and 2 community and facilitate "win-win" outcomes (between the Company and the Customer) in areas of Capability growth or enhancement. In this role Capability Consultancy will provide support not only in the realisation of the capability but also in the changes needed to support it, either within the Company or the MoD. In this regard Acquisition change will be a key enabler.
In exercising this role Capability Consultancy will utilise the services of external consultants where this is preferable, particularly where they have specific expertise or extant relationships.
Future Systems

The role Future Systems is to act as a catalyst to bring together the various elements of BAE Systems to respond to formative Customer Requirements, forming a "bridge" between the customer needs and the solution options. In this role it acts as a "solutions broker" to ensure that the total BAE Systems offer reflects the full breadth of Company capability. Future Systems takes the lead in developing new pan-company business development themes and ensuring that R&T investment is aligned to supporting these to maximum effect.
Future Systems is a fully ISO 9001 accredited organisation, with full contracting capability. In this regard Concept and Assessment phase contracts are executed by Future Systems in its role as an "objective" partner to the UK MoD

CORDA is a specialist company offering Defence Analysis consultancy services to key decision-makers in UK MoD, Armed Forces, NATO and Industry. The Company is wholly owned by BAE Systems, and is part of SBD.

CORDA’s key capability lies in the integration of scientific, technical, and financial skills with military expertise across all domains, to provide a packaged, one-stop analysis service, focussed at the concept and assessment phase of the defence lifecycle.
CORDA provides direct technical consultancy to key decision makers within UK MoD DECs, Warfare Centres, DSTL, DPA/DLO, UK Government Agencies and NATO, to support operational capability assessment and defence planning.
Within BAE Systems, CORDA provides Defence Analysis services to Business Units during the programme assessment phases, to support operational system and financial trade off and solution optimisation, and during programme delivery phases to provide specialist technical and analytical modelling support.

NITEworks is a unique partnership created between the MoD and Industry to explore Network Enabled Capability (NEC). It provides an experimental environment that allows the customer community to assess the benefits of NEC and the options for its effective and timely delivery. NITEworks will take NEC related problems from a wide variety of sources in both MoD and industry. It will develop them with the customer in response to specific questions to consider NEC integration issues, evaluate candidate solutions through experimentation and then deliver evidenced options to improve operational capability in the near term.
The Partnership is made up of eight Alliance Partners in addition to BAE Systems (EADS UK, EDS Defence Limited, General Dynamics UK Limited, LogicaCMG, MBDA UK Limited, QinetiQ, Raytheon Systems Limited and Thales UK Plc) as well as 32 Associate companies and elements from central MoD, the DPA, Dstl and the active military.
